Hjalmar Stolpe undersökte på 1870-talet ca 4 500 m2 av Svarta jorden på Björkö. Grävningarna resulterade i ett stort antal fynd som längre låg ouppackade på Historiska museet i Stockholm. Museets amanuens Erik Sörling blev 1951 färdig med manuskriptet till en katalog, illustrerad med egna teckningar, som dock aldrig trycktes.

Lördagen 29 september talade Michael Lindblom på Forskartorget på Bokmässan i Göteborg om svensk arkeologi i bronsålderns Grekland.

Whale hunting occurred extensively already in the 6th century, Whalebone was used for e.g. gaming pieces, but the hunting also show extensive trade routes, resource utilisation and human influences on the marine systems.

On 2017-10-02 a media release was sent out by Uppsala University’s Press Office announcing a claim by Dr Annika Larsson to have discovered Kufic script on Viking-Age textiles. Contrary to standard university practice, Dr Larsson’s unpublished interpretations were not peer-reviewed prior to their announcement. Over the past few weeks, they have received widespread media attention and severe criticism from textile researchers and experts in Islamic art.

The skeleton in the Birka chamber grave Bj581 contained rich grave goods with swords and arrowheads. For long, the skeleton was thought to have been male. Now we think differently.
